My mom's tomatos

I think my family might be turning into semi farmers (okay... I might be over exaggerating a bit ;-), but my brother owns two hens and our parents grow vegetables every summer: Tomatoes, cucumber, and a couple of herbs. They never eat any of it though. I visited my parents earlier today and they sent me home with all of the freshly picked tomatoes and the cucumber.

yey!

I can't wait until my bother makes his vegetable garden next year... fresh eggs and vegetables. Niceness!

40 things I like

Yesterday I read a blog post called 100 things I hate. I found that fascinating and kudos to her for actually managing to come up with a 100 things to hate. What I didn’t really like about the concept is the negative aspect. So this gave me an idea. Being the positive person that I am I will now list 40 things I like some of these things I even love. Haha at first I set out to make a list of 50 things, but this proved more difficult than I thought.

Okay, here we go:

4. Creating
5. Reading
6. Re reading books I love
7. When I find new inspiration

23. Going on vacation
24. Washington DC
25. Shoes

Dead Sea

A couple I know got married yesterday and the only thing they've listed as a WANT for their wedding was art. Which I guess is lucky for them because they know plenty of people who either makes art or have good taste.

I draw and I must say that the two pictures I made are pretty awesome. I couldn't really make up my mind on which one to give them but I settled on "Dead Sea part two" I also framed it in a nice frame.

I really hope they like it though.

UPDATE:

They loved the present! Which made me very happy! :-)

Grumpy Haters

At the beginning of May I visited the Ballston, Virginia Arts and crafts market. Where I found and bought the most wonderful little creation: A Grumpy Hater. I don't know the name of the woman who makes the Grumpy haters but I do know that she is a part of a collective called Uppity minions. I'm facinated with the different stuff this collective makes.

My Grumpy hater, an Ima zombie. :D

Isn't it the cutest thing? I totally love it. When I'm not showing it of it resides in my kitchen window sill:

I did buy more wonderful stuff at the Ballston maket, but more about that in another post!

Hens

I called my brother yesterday and asked him what he was doing. He said:

"I'm out borrowing powertools so that I can put my chicken coop together!"

me: "eeerm? Chicken coop? Why are you building a chicken coop?"
Brother: "haha cause I bought two hens today. I even got an egg about an hour ago."

aaaaw I love my brother. He is honestly full of strange but wonderful ideas. In the afternood, yesterday, I went to check out these hens and I asked him why he had bought them. He had originally bought them for two friends of ours as a wedding present (they're getting married today), but then he started building them a "home" and he got his first egg and well now he has bonded with them ;-) He's also planing to build an even bigger chicken coop at a later time, one where they will be all warm and safe when winter comes. Next weekend my brother and I are going to prephear his yard so that he can plant vedgebles next year!

When my brother was 15 or 16 he actually bought 2 ducks and kept them in our back yard. Mom hated it. They ended up crapping everywhere and when it was to cold to be outside they lived in our bathtub for a couple of weeks. Mom eneded up forcing him to give them back to the farm where he bought them. It was still pretty funny though. To have ducks in our back yard for a few months.

ooo the first egg, before he cleaned it. haha it's laying in a dirty bowl ;-) which was kind of fitting.

Perfectionism..

I though I'd share some of my previous work. I've spent a lot of time working with shinhan twin touch markers. Such a treat!

This is something I made in 2009 for a couple I know. They put it in their bathroom hehe (royal FLUSH is the name of the pic and where better to put it then over the toilet)This really tickled my funny bone!

The next pic is something I made after having a talk with my x boyfriend about superheroes. Both of us loves superhero movies and tv shows. It turned out that his fave was superman. Personally I find superman to be alittle whiny at times so I made a drawing of superman.. the ideal version:

Superman gone bad:

of course being a perfectionist I can easily make many many versions of the same sketch before I'm actually happy. haha at times it feels almost like a desease.

Art projects

So my formal education is within humanities and social science, but I have been blessed with my fathers creative abilities and have always had a love for drawing. My brother shares this to.

Seeing as my only creative training usually comes out of my own head and some outward inspiration I discovered something last week... I usually end up doing the same things over and over.

The last few months I haven't been drawing that much so when I started last week I felt that I was stale and rusty... well I finally found some new inspiration as techniuqe is conserned and I'm litterally bursting with ideas.

Man what a good feeling.

At first I didn't really know what this blog was going to be about. My dad had just passed away in a tragic way and I felt empty (on so many levels), but now I know...

cause life happenes when you're not looking, right?

and all of a sudden I have a new project going!

Huzzah!

untill next time,
Callie
